The Ask: Create the UI for a computer navigated cart to assist in total knee replacement surgery.

Team Composition: Creative Director, Associate Creative Director, Sr Interaction Designer, Junior Visual designer

My Role: Associate Creative Director/Sr Interaction Designer

Phases: Discovery, Concept validation

Project Length: 12 weeks

Challenges: Supporting different users at different distances from the display. Creating a flexible paths through the surgery that support provider preferences. Giving visual cues to help with the unusual registration procedure.

Learnings: Even though the cart and pin driver support the surgeon, he never takes his eyes off of the patient, so the primary consumers of information from the UI are the technicians that are helping the surgeon. The service blueprint was critical for understanding the different phases of the surgery and was the main driver for the behavior of the interface.
